Lokalportal won the “Vor Ort NRW“ media award!
In the category “New Voice in the Local“, we and Neue Westfälische received the “Vor Ort NRW“ media award for innovative local journalism, endowed with 2,500 euros.
Our founder Sebastian Penthin, NW product manager Alexander Drößler and our local reporter Lena Krause received the award on behalf of the entire Lokalportal team on Friday evening in the Hyatt Hotel in Düsseldorf. “Vor Ort NRW“ is an initiative founded under the roof of the state institute for media (LfM) NRW.
Lokalportal product manager Alexander Drößler, Lena Krause (Lokalportal Paderborn) and Lokalportal founder Sebastian Penthin.
According to “Vor Ort NRW” leader Simone Jost-Westendorf, lokalportal.de shows how local journalism can be experienced with the help of new technologies and how it involves its neighbourhood users. Lokalportal“makes an important contribution to a more diversed media landscape in NRW“.
In Lokalportal, users can find important news, useful information as well as event information and insider tips from the area – and they can write their own own content and contribute. Local actors such as clubs or schools can attract attention by informing about themselves and their offers. This is how Lokalportal connects a place.
In our pilot projects in the district of Paderborn and in Bünder Land, reporters from the Neue Westfälischen newspaper feed Lokalportal with local news and pick up ideas and wishes from their neighbours. Lokalportal thus ensures participation in the community.
“We are very happy about the award and we are encouraged by the way we think user-centered journalism on a neighbourhood level. Our journalists respond directly to the needs of Lokalportal users and are committed to local exchange,“ says Lokalportal product manager Alexander Drößler.
The jury’s statement says:“The planned road closure in your neighbourhood, a business that closes, these are topics that people are often more interested in than big politics“. Lokalportal is a platform, which does not copy what others did before. Rather, it is “a pioneer“ that is constantly evolving.
The jury, chaired by journalism professor Wiebke Möhring of the University of Dortmund, praised the fact that localportal.de had space for people who did not want to get involved in large international networks. Our founder, Sebastian Penthin, is pleased with the award: “The award is a tribute to our common path and our vision of a digital ecosystem for local content and local exchange.“
But we could only win with you, our users. Therefore, we would like to thank all our neighbours for making tLokalportal colourful with content from the neighbourhood, or for commenting and voting on several topics. Thanks to the many clubs and initiatives that regularly use Lokalportal to inform about themselves and their offers. With Lokalportal we want to give you a digital home. With you we want to design the digital place in Lokalportal.
